English Language Learners (ELL)

Students are admitted to most grades irrespective of their knowledge of and experience with the English language, as long as they meet the other admission criteria. We provide a comprehensive ELL programme to address the needs of students from non-English speaking backgrounds who are still in the process of developing interpersonal and academic English language skills. The goal of the ELL programme is to facilitate English language learning so that as soon as possible these students can operate independently, within their general classroom, at a level that reflects their age and ability.

Social and Emotional Growth

A student’s social and emotional well-being is linked to all aspects of their experience at school and beyond. It encompasses their cognitive, emotional, spiritual and social health and development, and contributes to an understanding of self, to developing and maintaining relationships with others, and to participation in an active, healthy lifestyle.

IST's approach to social and emotional growth is comprehensive including a range of topics such as time management, conflict resolution, nutrition and health.

“As a new student I feel that the atmosphere of the school is very welcoming and it was easy for me to get settled in the new environment. I appreciate all of the support in school from peers and teachers.”
