The sports and physical education programs at IST are crucial to a well-rounded education. The promotion of a healthy lifestyle through exercise, sport, and movement is our aim. The same dedication to excellence that penetrates the classroom is therefore seen on the playing field, court, or swimming pool as well.
Our program spans from third grade through twelfth grade. Numerous sports, including basketball, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field are played by elementary school children. We field competently coached, competitive teams in a variety of sports at the Elementary and Secondary School levels.
Our varsity teams proudly represent the school against regional and international competition, and there is a high level of student participation. We also offer clubs and extracurricular athletic events to provide a well-rounded sports experience.

The Elementary Program

The athletic department fosters and develops young talent while maintaining the program's enjoyment and fun. IST instills in its students a sense of self-worth and civic responsibility through athletics. The athletic program believes that team sports can teach students teamwork, leadership, responsibility, and a commitment to excellence.

The Secondary Program

Our secondary school athletics program promotes the enjoyment of interscholastic competition while also supporting our IST's goal of providing a superior, all-encompassing education. The athletics program strives to create an environment in which students can enjoy sports and fitness and carry that enjoyment into adulthood.

ISSEA

IST is a proud member of the International Schools of Southern and Eastern Africa organisation (ISSEA). ISSEA is a collective of international schools that was created in 1998. The original member schools were: American International School of Johannesburg, Harare International School, International Community School of Addis Ababa, International School of Kenya, International School of Tanganyika and the International School of Uganda. It was established as a sports conference sponsoring basketball, soccer, and volleyball. Member schools take turns hosting each activity every year. Students get to travel, make friends, and take trophies all across Africa.
