Reasons To Attend The International School Of Tanganyika
Academic Excellence
A challenging International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme nurtures a love of learning and inquiry in students. It allows students to not only increase their knowledge base, but also demonstrate their learning and act upon it. Following graduation, 95% of students receive admission to four-year university programmes or colleges.
Global Education Networks
A school which has an affiliation with influential global education networks provides students a chance to connect with others both worldwide and locally in Dar es Salaam. Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of local and global activities that expand their perspective and connects them to their peers around the world. IST is a member of ISSEA, AISA, CIS, MSA, SENIA and many other international groups that support both teachers and students, as well as the institutional goals we hold.
Local Partnerships
Partnering with local businesses and organizations can significantly improve a student’s experience by giving them opportunities outside the classroom. Whether it be with the sport organizations such as the Jr. NBA or service projects, IST has many local partnerships in Dar es Salaam to ensure students have every opportunity possible. One example is the collaboration with Tanzania Life Saving Society (TALISS)
Commitment To Tanzania
IST is a name that is instantly recognizable in Tanzania. “From police, hospitals, airports, etc., the level of respect and recognition is flattering and a reflection of the influence that the school has,” said Ivan Chew, the Secondary Campus Physical Health and Education teacher at IST. The students at IST have many opportunities to engage in service work to not only to benefit the local community but also the students themselves.
Personalized learning
Personalized learning is pivotal to student success. The way we learn as individuals is as unique as we are; people retain information in different ways, and that is exactly how this approach to learning is tailored. IST is focused on challenging, supporting and inspiring each student who comes through the school doors. Our programmes are balanced in a way that provides opportunities for each student to explore and develop in areas that they are interested in or passionate about, while also ensuring that important skills and knowledge are the foundation of their learning.
World Class Faculty
At IST, faculty members are recruited from both Tanzania and around the world, allowing for a diverse range of values and perspectives. Regardless of where faculty come from, they share four important characteristics: They are experts in their field, often holding advanced degrees and training in our core programmes such as the Primary and Middle Years Programmes, as well as our Diploma Programme. They are committed to making the world a better place and are keen to contribute to Tanzania. They are willing to contribute to our co-curricular programmes and are excited about sharing their passions and interests with the community. They love working with our students and recognize that all of our students are unique individuals.
Dedicated Support System
One of IST’s many strengths is providing support above and beyond academic instruction. IST’s commitment to individualized learning approaches includes ensuring students have the support they need to learn. We have a strong Student Support Department which includes members of our learning support team, English as an Additional Language and Counseling Department.
Distinguished History
IST is one of the oldest and most prestigious international schools in Africa. It is this longevity and sustained excellence that is a testament to the work of thousands of educators, students, parents and community partners since we opened in 1963.
